To marry on Vlieland

To marry on Vlieland is to marry far away from the hustle and bustle. There are very few cars on Vlieland and the landscape is typified by vast beaches, beautiful woods, and high dunes. Hence, it is not a surprise that weddings on Vlieland are very popular.

Couples can tie the knot on a number of special sites on Vlieland, including the “drenkelingenhuisje” (shelter for shipwrecked persons) on the farthest point of the Vliehors. This shelter on stilts, offering space to approximately ten persons and surrounded by an expanse of sand of more than twenty square kilometres, is probably one of the most remote wedding sites in The Netherlands.

In addition to the “drenkelingenhuisje” on the Vliehors, you can marry on Vlieland in the council chambers of the town hall, in the “blauwe tegelkamer” (blue tile room) of the Tromp's Huys, or in the “regentenkamer” (room of regents) of the Armhuis.
